Sarah Slater, Australia

Trumpet

Sarah Slater began playing the cornet at age 6 at the Salvation Army in Ballarat, Australia where her father, a passionate soprano cornet player, gave her her first lessons. She later took up the trumpet having lessons with the local trumpet teacher Suzanne Wedding with whom she learnt trumpet for over 10 years. In her early years Sarah enjoyed playing in Brass Bands with her father, playing in her school bands and travelling to different solo competitions. Later she studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne where she was inspired in lessons with Robert Sims, Geoff Payne and Tristram Williams.

Sarah learnt the German language at high school and after completing her Bachelor of Music decided to venture to Germany where she has now been living since 2003. After studying modern trumpet with Reinhold Friedrich and later natural trumpet with Prof. Dr. Edward H. Tarr at the Music Hochschule in Karlsruhe Sarah went on to play in the National Theater Orchestra in Mannheim and then the Essen Philharmonic. For the past few years Sarah has made Karlsruhe her home where she enjoys life as a freelance musician.

Sarah is always happiest when she is on tour and exploring the beautiful cities of Europe and in particular the wonderfully diverse tastes they have to offer. Since the Summer Semester 2013 Sarah has been teaching the trumpet class at the Music Hochschule in Karlsruhe as an assistant to Professor Reinhold Friedrich.
