Barry Jurjus was born in Huissen, in the Netherlands. His first musical experiences came with the local windband, before going onto to study percussion at the Conservatory of Arnhem, the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and the Universität der Künste and Hanns Eisler in Berlin. He got his Master degree at the conservatorium van Amsterdam and Berlin at the Universität der Künste.
Barry was for 10 years a contracted player with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and plays on a regular basis with other professional orchestras in Holland, Germany and Belgium. Whilst a student, Barry won the Yamaha Prize and was the recipient of the VSB and the Nuffic scholarships in 2001. In addition to his orchestral playing, Barry performs with a variety of ensembles including the Brazillian percussion group AbSurdo, were he is the musical leader. He also plays timpani in different international old music ensembles and works with several theatergroups. He has been a core member of Worldbrass since 2002.
