French Horn
Gesa Maria Johanns was born in 1976 and grew up in Überlingen near Lake Constance. She played the piano and the violin before deciding to play the French Horn at the age of 14. In 1996 she began studies with Prof. Erich Penzel in Cologne. In 1999 she entered the Orchestra-Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, where she had the opportunity to play in the orchestra and get lessons from Stefan Dohr (principal horn) for two years. In August 2000 Gesa joined the Sinfonieorchester Basel (CH) as third horn. She is presently Principal Horn with the Limburgs Symphonie Orkest in Maastricht (NL). As a guest she has played in a number of other professional orchestras, including the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, Berliner Symphoniker, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Modern. Gesa Schott plays a lot of chamber music and is one of the founding members of Worldbrass. As a soloist she has performed with several amateur and youth-orchestra.
