About The Program
World Brass New Years Concerts
Its that time of year again; time for our traditional series of new years concerts. We're happy to present another new program, which we're calling "Rule Britannia", including works from some of Great Britain's most important composers.
The concert begins with works from Giles Farnaby and John Bull, two composers of Renaissance music. As is custom, we follow old music with a new work for brass ensemble, "Glenborrodale", from the London jazz trumpeter Guy Barker. Steven Verhaert's arrangement of Benjamin Britten's "Four Sea Interludes", from the opera "Peter Grimes", finishes up the first half.
The second half starts with a new World Brass arrangement by Walter Ratzek, Gustav Holst's, "Suite in F". With Gordon Langford's "London Miniatures" we tip our hat to the legendary Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, founders of the ten-piece brass ensemble and a group of some of Great Britain's finest brass musicians. We end the concert with the "Fantasia on British Sea Songs" by Henry Wood, from Last Night of the Proms fame.
We hope to see you at the concerts!
